THE 2023-2024 LEXISNEXIS® REWARDS CONTEST

Official Contest Rules and Regulations (the “Contest Rules”)

NO PURCHASE IS NECESSARY.


  • ELIGIBILITY :

    This LexisNexis STAR Rewards Program (“LexisNexis Rewards Program”) is a unique promotional offer that is available to law school students who subscribe to the LexisNexis® online services (“LexisNexis Online Services”) as the LexisNexis Online Services are offered through the Eligible Student’s (defined below) law school. The LexisNexis Rewards Program is sponsored and conducted by LexisNexis Canada Inc. (“LexisNexis” or “Contest Administrators”). Eligible Students using the LexisNexis Online Services in accordance with the LexisNexis® Rewards Official Rules available at https://lexisnexis.nextbee.io/terms/ (the “Official Rules”) and in compliance with the then current LexisNexis General Terms and Conditions for Use of the LexisNexis Services, available at https://www.lexisnexis.ca/en-ca/terms/online-products.page can earn Points (defined below) for activities, such as, but not limited to, completing tutorials, training, online exercises or participating in product trials. Points are then deposited into the Student’s individual LexisNexis Rewards Program account statement (“Rewards Statement”) and can be used to gain a chance to win prizes. The prizes may change from time to time, without notice, in LexisNexis’ discretion. LexisNexis Rewards Program participation is free.

    The 2023-2024 LexisNexis Rewards Contest (the “Contest”) is open to individuals in Canada who are : (a) over 18 as of the date of their first participation in the LexisNexis Rewards Program; (b) Canadian residents; (c) full or part-time law students attending an accredited Canadian Law School that subscribes to the LexisNexis Online Service (the “Eligible Schools”); and (d) who possess a valid, active, and personal LexisNexis identification number (“LexisNexis ID”) issued in that individual’s name for access to and use of the LexisNexis Online Services (“Eligible Students”). Employees (and all the members of the immediate families or households of such employees) of RELX Inc., LexisNexis Canada Inc., and its and their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries and affiliates are ineligible.

  • HOW TO ENTER :

    The LexisNexis Rewards Program allows Eligible Students to earn Points while learning about the LexisNexis Online Services throughout the Rewards Term (defined below). The LexisNexis Rewards Program shall run from September 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024, (“Rewards Term”). For the purposes of this LexisNexis Rewards Program, “Points” mean those particular LexisNexis Rewards Program measurement increments, which can be used to gain a chance to win prizes. Points and their values are: (a) determined by LexisNexis in its discretion; (b) subject to change without notice; and (c) may vary among law schools and/or law students. All Points, including but not limited to earning, saving and using must be used in compliance with these Official Rules. Points are non-transferable and Points cannot be earned after the Rewards Term has expired, the LexisNexis Rewards Program is terminated or an individual student’s participation in the LexisNexis Rewards Program has been terminated, as set forth below. Unused Points are forfeited upon termination of the LexisNexis Rewards Program or termination of a student’s participation.

    Eligible Students may participate in the LexisNexis Rewards Program by accessing the website www.lexisnexis.ca/starrewards (“Site”) to register for the LexisNexis Rewards Program to start earning Points subject to the terms set forth herein and on the Site.

    Participation in the Rewards Program constitutes acceptance of the Official Rules. The Official Rules may change, at LexisNexis’ discretion, with or without notice to any participating students. LexisNexis shall not be liable to any participating students for any changes in the Official Rules. If a change occurs, then the Eligible Students continued participation in the LexisNexis Rewards Program shall constitute agreement to the changes. However, if an Eligible Student decides to terminate participation then that student can do so by notifying LexisNexis at starrewards@lexisnexis.ca, and upon such termination the student may use Points accumulated up to the date of termination. Although Eligible Students may have more than one LexisNexis ID, Eligible Students are permitted to accept and accumulate Points only through one LexisNexis ID issued officially through their Canadian Law School. An Eligible Student’s Points shall be reflected in their Reward Statement. Students can only have one Reward Statement and are solely responsible for any and all use of their LexisNexis ID and their Reward Statement.

    LexisNexis is not responsible or liable for any theft, misuse or disclosures associated with a Reward Statement. Any person who tries to use more than one LexisNexis ID or create more than one identity in order to obtain more Points or create more than one Reward Statement shall be disqualified in LexisNexis’ sole discretion.

  • EARNING POINTS :

    Subject to change (and please check the Site for updates), Eligible Students may earn a certain number of Points as follows:

    1. Registration: Eligible Students may earn Points after registration in the STAR REWARDS program. Registration only occurs once.

    2. Training: Eligible Students may earn Points for attending certain LexisNexis-designated training classes.

    3. Online Tutorials, Videos and Webinars: Eligible Students may receive Points for taking certain tutorials, videos and webcasts and appropriately answering the questions at the end of the activity. Eligible Students may be provided the opportunity to take any number of tutorials during an Academic Semester and those tutorials may result in Point earning opportunities for Eligible Students. For the purpose of these Official Rules, "Academic Semester” means (a) September 1, 2023 through December 31, 2023, and (b) January 1, 2024 through April 30, 2024.

    4. Exercises and Quizzes: Eligible Students may receive Points for taking certain LexisNexis exercises and/or quizzes and appropriately responding to the materials.

    5. Miscellaneous Activity: Eligible Students may earn Points from LexisNexis for other activities or promotions pertaining to LexisNexis or its products as offered to Eligible Students from time-to-time in LexisNexis’ discretion. In addition, Points may also be distributed, as LexisNexis deems appropriate, based upon a particular student’s use of the LexisNexis research system (“On the Spot Distribution”). On the Spot Distribution will be administered in LexisNexis’ discretion, based upon LexisNexis representative’s judgment of the student(s) use of the LexisNexis Online Services, attendance at training sessions or attendance or participation at other LexisNexis-sponsored activities. Points shall be reflected in a separate electronic online Reward Statement that can be viewed on the Site. Points will be deposited in the Eligible Student’s Reward Statement in a commercially reasonable time after they are earned by the Student. LexisNexis is not required to provide Eligible Students any information related to the process or procedures for any point earning opportunity. Points are deposited in Eastern Time. An Eligible Student’s Points will be deposited directly into the student’s Reward Statement which can be found at www.lexisnexis.ca/starrewardsAny inquiries regarding Points not correctly deposited must be received by LexisNexis within 45 days of the date of alleged accrual of Points. An Eligible Student’s Reward Statement is not transferable.

  • CONTEST PERIOD :

    For the «First Semester Prize» and «First Semester Tier Raffle Prizes by Star Status» the Contest starts on September 1, 2023, at 9:00 am EST and closes on December 31, 2023 at 11:59PM EST, unless suspended or cancelled earlier as set out herein (the “Contest Period for the First Semester Prize” and “Contest Period for the First Semester Tier Raffle Prizes by Star Status”).

    For the «Second Semester Prize» and «Second Semester Tier Raffle Prizes by Star Status» the Contest starts on January 1, 2024 at 9 :00 am EST and closes on April 30, 2024 at 11 :59 PM EST, unless suspended or cancelled earlier as set out herein (the “Contest Period for the Second Semester Prize” and “Contest Period for the Second Semester Tier Raffle Prizes by Star Status”).

  • PRIZE AWARD / WINNER NOTIFICATION :

    For the First Semester Prize three (3) entrees will be selected amongst the Eligible Students at each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools (the “Winners”), and the prizes will be awarded based on the numbers of Points received by each one of the Winners, whereby the Winner with the most Points will receive first prize, the Winner with the second most Points will receive the second prize, the Winner with the third most Points will receive the third prize. In the event of a tie the Winners will be resolved in a random draw between the Eligible Students having the same number of points. The First Semester Tier Raffle prizes (3) will be drawn amongst the Eligible Students from each category including the Bronze Star category (<1999pts), Gold Star category (2000pts – 4999 pts), and Platinum Star category (>5000 pts). The prizes will be determined on January 15, 2024 at 5:00 pm EST at LexisNexis Canada Inc. 111 Gordon Baker Road, Suite 900, Toronto, Ontario M2H 3R1. The Winners will be contacted by e-mail. In order to be declared a Winner, Eligible Students must correctly answer (unaided) a mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by e-mail, and their entry must have been verified by the Contest Administrators. The Contest Administrators reserve the right to require proof of age and jurisdiction of residence prior to awarding the prize. If a Winner is contacted but does not respond within a ten (10) day delay (or is otherwise unqualified), the prize will be forfeited and will be awarded to the following Eligible Students as determined by the Points. The prizes will be provided by e-mail to the Winners within three (3) weeks, that is, by February 5, 2024.

    For the Second Semester Prize three entries (3) will be selected amongst the Eligible Students at each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools (the “Winners”), and the prizes will be awarded based on the numbers of Points received by each one of the Winners, whereby the Winner with the most Points will receive first prize, the Winner with the second most Points will receive the second prize, the Winner with the third most Points will receive the third prize. In the event of a tie the Winners will be resolved in a random draw between the Eligible Students having the same number of points. The Second Semester Tier Raffle prizes (3) will be drawn amongst the Eligible Students from each category including the Bronze Star category (<1999pts), Gold Star category (2000pts – 4999 pts), and Platinum Star category (>5000 pts). The prizes will be determined on May 13, 2024 at 5:00 pm EST at LexisNexis Canada Inc. 111 Gordon Baker Road, Suite 900, Toronto, Ontario M2H 3R1. The Winners will be contacted by e-mail. In order to be declared a Winner, Eligible Students must correctly answer (unaided) a mathematical skill-testing question to be administered by e-mail, and their entry must have been verified by the Contest Administrators.   • PRIZES :

    For the First Semester Prize there are seventy-two (72) prizes which consist of a $150 online shopping gift card, at LexisNexis’s discretion, for the Eligible Students with the most Points in each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools, a $100 online shopping gift card, at LexisNexis’s discretion, for the Eligible Students with the second most Points in each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools and a $50 online shopping gift card, at LexisNexis’s discretion, for Eligible Students with the third most Points in each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools.

    For the Second Semester Prize there are seventy-two (72) prizes which consist of a $150 online shopping gift card, at LexisNexis’s discretion, for the Eligible Students with the most Points in each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools, a $100 online shopping gift card, at LexisNexis’s discretion, for the Eligible Students with the second most Points in each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools and a $50 online shopping gift card, at LexisNexis’s discretion, for Eligible Students with the third most Points in each of the twenty four (24) Eligible Schools.

    For the Tier Raffle Prizes by Star Status there is one (1) prize which consists of a $100 online shopping gift card for the Eligible Students in the Bronze Star category, one (1) prize which consists of a $200 online shopping gift card for the Eligible Students in the Gold Star category, and one (1) prize which consists of a $300 online shopping gift card for the Eligible Students in the Platinum Star category.

    The Contest Administrators reserve the right to substitute prizes of equal or greater value in the event that the specified prizes are unavailable.

  • GENERAL :

    Decisions of the Contest Administrators are final on all matters relating to the Contest, including matters of fact, interpretation, eligibility, procedure and fulfillment in respect to the Contest. The Contest Administrators reserve the right at any time to cancel or modify the Contest or to modify or supplement these rules, without notice, in their sole discretion, subject to applicable law.

    By participating in this Contest, the Winners consent to the use by the Contest Administrators of their names for any lawful purpose without further permission or compensation, except where prohibited by law, including promoting the list of Winners.

    By entering the Contest, all entrants and Winners agree to abide by and be bound by these Contest Rules, the LexisNexis® Rewards Official Rules (https://lexisnexis.nextbee.io/terms/) the LexisNexis® Rewards Privacy Policy (http://www.lexisnexis.com/terms/privacy) and consent to the use of their personal information to administer, implement and fulfill the Contest.

    This LexisNexis Rewards Program shall be offered during the Rewards Term subject to the Official Rules or may terminate at an earlier date, at LexisNexis’ discretion, upon notice of termination of the LexisNexis Rewards Program. Notice of termination shall be provided to Eligible Students in any manner LexisNexis deems reasonable, including, but not limited to posting such notice on the Site. However, notice of early termination shall not be provided for any actions, petitions or adjudications associated with bankruptcy, insolvency, assignments to creditors or material business interruptions.

    LexisNexis reserves the right to modify, suspend and/or terminate the LexisNexis Rewards Program, without notice, in whole or in part, in the event of computer, programming, system errors, telephone system malfunction or other problems which are beyond LexisNexis’ control and that affect the LexisNexis’ ability to proceed as intended. If for any reason the LexisNexis Rewards Program is not capable of running as planned due to: (a) infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failure or other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the LexisNexis Rewards Program; or (b) earthquake, flood, fire, storm or other natural disaster, act of God, labour controversy or threat thereof, civil disturbance or commotion, disruption of the public markets, war or armed conflict (whether or not officially declared) LexisNexis reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, or suspend the LexisNexis Rewards Program without obligation or prior notice. Any attempts by any student to access the Site via a bot script or other brute-force attack shall result in that student becoming ineligible. LexisNexis, in its sole discretion, reserves the right, to disqualify and terminate participation of any Student found to be: (i) tampering with the operation of the LexisNexis Rewards Program or the Site; (ii) acting in violation of the Official Rules; (iii) violating the terms of use of the Site or LexisNexis Online Services; (iv) acting in an unethical or disruptive manner; (v) acting with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass LexisNexis, their representatives or any other Eligible Student in any manner related to the LexisNexis Rewards Program; (vi) tampering with, altering, or attempting to alter Reward Statements; or (vii) tampering with, altering, attempting to alter, creating, attempting to create or duplicate Rewards Coupons or Statements.

    By participating Eligible Students agree: (a) to be bound by the Official Rules and by the decisions of LexisNexis, which are final on all matters pertaining to this LexisNexis Rewards Program, and (b) to release, indemnify and hold harmless LexisNexis (and its and their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, related entities, divisions, distributors, wholesalers, partners, licensees, retailers, sponsors, partnerships, representatives, vendors, contractors, successors, assigns, principals, shareholders, directors, officers, employees and agents, and their advertising, promotion, fulfillment agencies and all other promotional partners) (collectively the “Promotional Partners”) from any and all liability, claims for damages, or from (i) altered, late, lost, damaged, destroyed, inaccurate, defaced, misdirected, mutilated, illegible, stolen, delayed, garbled, misrouted, incomplete entries or human, telephone, computer, online or technical malfunctions (including busy lines and disconnections) (ii) their participation, (iii) the awarding, acceptance, receipt, use, redemption, misuse, possession, loss or misdirection of any Points or Rewards Merchandise or preparing for or participation in any related activity or (iv) from any and all damages or injury to persons or property related to use or misuse of the Site or the LexisNexis STAR Rewards Program.

    This LexisNexis Rewards Program is provided on an “AS IS” basis and without warranty, guaranty or representation of any kind, expressed or implied, including without limitation, any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non- infringement. LexisNexis is not responsible for any assurances, guarantees, representations or warranties made or implied by any parties associated with or involved in this LexisNexis Rewards Program, including but not limited to any Point value variations among Selected Law Schools and/or law students, merchandisers, manufacturers, suppliers or advertisers of any Rewards Merchandise or their terms and conditions relating to selecting any merchandise. Each participating Eligible Student is responsible for any equipment or means of access required to participate in the LexisNexis Rewards Program. Any use of automated like means, whether programmatic or robotic or the like, to gather Points shall result in a disqualification of the Eligible Student from the LexisNexis Rewards Program. LexisNexis is not responsible or liable for: (a) incomplete or incorrect information, garbled transmissions, and telecommunications failures or service interruptions; (b) a participants use of the Site, Points or Rewards Merchandise; (c) for typographical, printing or other errors in the offer or administration of this LexisNexis Rewards Program; (d) errors, irregularities or failures: (i) in awarding, accumulating, receiving, or using Points, advertising; or (ii) accessing the LexisNexis Rewards Program or the LexisNexis Online Services; (e) mistakes in or changes to the Official Rules and Contest Rules, the selection, notification and announcement of the Points or the distribution of Rewards Merchandise; or (f) for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by web site users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the LexisNexis Rewards Program or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions in the LexisNexis Rewards Program. LexisNexis and Promotional Partners assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft of or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. LexisNexis and Promotional Partners are not responsible for any problems, failures or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, computer online systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, hardware/software, players or browsers, failure of email or entrants due to or resulting from technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any web site or combination thereof, including injury or damage to participants or to any other person's computer related to or resulting from participating or downloading materials in this LexisNexis Rewards Program.

    The LexisNexis Rewards Program is governed by, and the Official Rules and Contest Rules shall be construed and interpreted pursuant to, the laws of the Province of Ontario. All Federal, provincial and local laws and regulations apply. Restrictions, conditions, and limitations apply. LexisNexis and all entities involved in conducting this LexisNexis Rewards Program, reserve the right in their sole discretion to limit participation in the LexisNexis Rewards Program, assess varying Point values to Point earning opportunities among selected law schools and/or law students, and to terminate or disqualify any participant’s involvement in the LexisNexis Rewards Program. Points and rewards are non-transferable. Normal Internet access and usage charges imposed by an entrant's online service shall apply.

    With respect to Québec residents, any litigation respecting the conduct or organization of a publicity contest may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux for a ruling. Any litigation respecting the awarding of the prize may be submitted to the Régie des alcools, des courses et des jeux only for the purpose of helping the parties reach a settlement.
